2010 Conference Speakers

Kristen Haley

Student C’11, Spelman College

Kristen A. Haley is a rising Senior Bonner Scholar, here at Spelman College from Ellicott City, Maryland. She says, "I was born with a God given love and compassion for children. Through the years this love has shaped my perspective, and every experience is seen through the veil of its potential benefit to children. I am consumed with the possibilities presented through the intentional and meticulous socialization of children. I am diligently exploring the best path to answer what I believe is the call on my life to serve children."

Throughout her college matriculation, she has served with local, national and international organizations in support of the educational development of children. She has come to see the power of education, and the influence and access that this system has on their lives. She realizes as an individual she has the power to create change, and is in a period of preparation. She is currently studying sociology, but proceeding graduation she plans to continue her education into a graduate school or a PhD program concentrating on education as a tool for social justice. She believes that children are the hope for the future, and she plans to play an intricate role in providing them with tools to be successful.
