Millicent I. Bright

Student C’11, Spelman College

Millicent Bright is a rising senior Bonner Scholar, here at Spelman College. She is originally from Freetown, Sierra Leone, and currently resides in Silver Spring, Maryland with her family. She is a Biology major, interested in pursing her doctorates in public health, concentrating on Global Maternal and Child Mental Health within underrepresented populations.

Throughout her matriculation at Spelman, she has been engaged in various academic organizations within the Spelman community. Through the Bonner Scholars Program, she has served at Herndon Elementary School and is currently at Raising Expectations. Partnered with those organizations she is able to impact the Wes End community by tutoring and mentoring students from various age groups. She believes “it takes a village’s investment in children to assist in instilling courage, self-esteem, determination, and motivation within our future leaders.” Assisting in the development of strong future leaders is her motivation and reason for being engaged in community service.
